The Association has been formed with the objective of providing umpires for matches in all divisions of the League; assisting and encouraging members to achieve and maintain a high standard of umpiring competence; fostering a spirit of comradeship and co-operation between members and promoting a cordial relationship between members and players thoughout the League and co-operating with the League in all matters including those relating to the Laws of Cricket.

July 2nd 2009 - 1st XI 20/20 Round Three Umpire Appointments on the website. 1st XI 20/20 page July 2nd 2009 - The 2009/2010 Umpire Training Course details are now on the website. Checkout the 'U & S Courses' page June 30th 2009 - Latest player suspension now on 'Suspensions' page. June 23rd 2009 - Umpire appointments for weeks 12 to 16 are now on the website June 23rd 2009 - 20/20 Regulations confusion- There has been a deal of confusion from some Umpires over the regulations relating to the side bowling second, not having bowled their allotted 20 overs in the specified 75 minutes. For every over not bowled 10 runs are added (as a penalty against the bowling side) to the batting sides total. As the side batting second are still entitled to their full 20 overs, those overs unbowled must then be completed (unless of course a result has already been obtained) This clarification has been provided by the MB Chairman Peter Davies. June 23rd 2009 - Umpire appointments for 3rd Round 2nd XI 20/20 matches now on the website. June 23rd 2009 - Player suspension now on the 'Suspensions' page June 22nd 2009 - The website design has been changed. June 16th 2009 - Points deducted for teams in Division 2 & Division 3 have now been taken into account in the tables. June 16th 2009 - FAIR PLAY TABLE - This has now been consolidated into one table for all 36 teams June 11th 2009 - UMPIRE CLOTHING - Due to certain people having put on more weight than they would admit to the following items are for sale on a first come first served basis: Umpire Jacket Large 1 £10 White Acrylic sweater Large 1 £23 White Acrylic slipover Large 1 £20 V-neck acrylic sweater XL (maroon) 1 £15 V-neck acrylic sweater L (green) 1 £15 Please contact Ian Bishop (Number in Handbook) June 9th 2009 - At a meeting of the Cheshire Clubs Cricket Committee yesterday (8th June) evening it has been agreed that Romiley Cricket Club of the Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League, Division 1 will be joining the Meller Braggins Cheshire Cricket League Division 3 at the start of the 2010 season. Only one other club will be promoted from the Cheshire Alliance Cricket League Division 1 instead of the usual 2. Two clubs will still be relegated to the Cheshire Alliance from our Division 3. June 8th 2009 - CHELFORD JUNIOR CRICKET FESTIVAL - This Festival is now in it's 26th year and will take place at Chelford CC on Sunday 5th July 2009 - 10:00am start. Again Meller Braggins Umpire Association is providing Umpires. If any new members of the panel, as well as the old members who always help at this festival are interested in helping at this years Festival please contact Dave Lawson (number in handbook). The usual fee of free food (yes that does include the famous 'Barnes Chocolate Cake') and countless cups of tea are again on offer. You can do morning matches or afternoon matches or all day. June 5th 2009 - The MARSTON'S Fair Play Table up to Week 6 is now on the website on the '2009 Fair Play' page. June 1st 2009 - There have been a couple of instances recently where property including money has gone missing from pavilions and umpires' changing rooms. The committee advise umpires again not to leave valuables in changing rooms. Quite frankly the best idea is to take an absolute minimum of money and valuables and keep this on your person during the match. May 11th 2009 - CHESHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 2 As from this week the Results and League Tables of the Cheshire County League Division 2 will appear on this website on the 'Cheshire County' page. Many thanks to the County League for giving permission for me to do this. April 27th 2009 - 2nd XI Results. Both the Umpires Website www.mbcclua.org.uk and the League Website www.mbccl.co.uk will be trying to get the 2nd XI results and tables up to date as soon after the matches finish on the Saturday. To do this, can we please ask the home Captains to send the results to us via the following methods:- email results@mbccl.co.uk - webmaster@mbcclua.org.uk or text 07960851410 with the results. Please tell us who won the toss and do not forget to also send in the score sheet to Graham Beckett. All results are provisional until we get the complete results sheets from the results secretary. Any adjustments will then be made to both the scores and tables if needed. April 11th 2009 - MB Umpires Association Subscriptions 2009 - Our Treasurer Ian Bishop, has asked me to remind you that a large number of members have still not paid their subscriptions for this year. The current subscription is £10 and was due at the AGM at the end of February. Will all those who have inadvertently forgotten to pay please kindly forward a cheque (payable to 'Cheshire Cricket Umpires Association') at your earliest convenience to Ian, whose address details will be found in the Handbook currently being distributed. April 8th 2009 - Information regarding the clothing line from the ECB AOC is on the 'News Letter' page February 24th 2009 - Rule changes for the 20/20 Knockout Competion appear on the 'Rule Changes' page. February 24th 2009 - Please return your availability forms to our new appointments secretary Geoff Young Esq. as soon as possible. This will make the task of appointing umpires a lot easier. If you have email addresses please let Geoff have them. February 21st 2009 - Week 2 & Week 13 fixtures in Division 2 & Division B involving the match's between Over Peover & Cholmondeley. The home team has been reversed in both fixtures. FEBRUARY 17th 2009 - UMPIRE CLOTHING ORDER FORM NOW ON WEBSITE see 'CLOTHING 2009' page. Please return order to IAN BISHOP by 17th March 2009. December 16th - Chairman's Christmas Newsletter and amendments to League Rules 13 & 14 now on the 'Chairmans News' page October 12th - NEW LAW 6 with new Appendix E came into affect on the 1st October 2008. Please see the 'New Law 6' page on the website for 'A Guide for Umpires' 2009 Season Average runs per wicket for each team and runs and wickets taken each week for each league will appear on the 'Season Averages' page when they are updated (not every week) September 13th - The dates for the 2009 Season have just been announced. The Umpire

I give up my Saturday’s and sometimes mid-week

A good game of Cricket is all that I seek

Played in a good spirit that pleases us all

By men with the bat and men with the ball

Decisions are made if to run or to stay

To bowl with spin or seam on the day

A smile and a chat between Umps and players all

While waiting for the return of that boundary ball

The Umpires in charge of all that day’s play

The players all accept what ever he does say

No need to rant at the Umpire when out

Just walk off the field and don’t even shout

We all make mistakes, both players and Umps

But don’t take your rage out on the cricket stumps

Don’t even use language that Mum wouldn’t use

The Umpires not there for you to abuse

Be kind to the Umpire when playing the game

Don’t shout at him or even call him a name

The decision he makes in the blink of an eye

Accept with a shrug and maybe a sigh

Buy him a pint at the end of the day

Talk nicely to him and have you own say

And when sat at home in front of your fire

Think what it would be like to be an Umpire

CHELFORD JUNIOR CRICKET FESTIVAL

SUNDAY 5 JULY 2009

I refer to my brief conversation with you regarding the above and confirm that the festivities are due to commence at 10.00 am.

Once again Mr Barnes and I will be attempting to find our way into the Guinness Book of Records by food poisoning more umpires at one meal than has previously been recorded.

The umpires’ breakfast which this year will be bacon and or sausage butties with tea or coffee will be provided at the ground from 9.00 am until 9.30 am.

As yet I have not received a “running order” but Mr Hughes will once again be assigning the protagonists when this is available.

Many thanks for your support and I look forward to seeing you on the day.
