It is assumed that Umpires will stand in matches as appointed. Should you be unable to fulfil an appointment, please ring Dave Lawson (number in handbook) as soon as possible - preferably not on Saturday morning. If I am not available during the week please leave a message on the BT answering service.
It is our intention, this Season, to intially appoint Umpires only in pairs. Occasionally, however, a single Umpire may be noted - with the idea of providing a partner at a later date. If, however, your partner fails to appear and provided no other person, not playing in the match and acceptable to BOTH Captains, is available to take a full part with you, you should stand at the bowlers end throughout the match.
In the event of adverse weather conditions causing abandonment of a match on the Saturday morning or earlier, it is the Home Team Captain's responsibility to contact the appointed Umpires to prevent them yravelling needlessly. Failure to do so makes the Home Club liable to pay Umpires expenses in full. Please inform Dave Lawson of any such incident.
Umpires expenses this 2008 Season are £28. It should be noted expenses for Umpires who stand on their own are £42 - £21 per club.
Fitness of ground, weather and light - All the provisions and regulations are contained in the League Handbook and Umpires should ensure that they carry a copy of the Handbook to all matches.
Remember that accoring to the League regulations you and your colleague are the sole judges of the fitness of the ground, weather and light for play - once the toss has been made. A copy of 'should we play' is available in the Handbook.
6. Please ensure that matches start promptly at the designated time - if this does not occur a note should be made by the Umpires on the score sheet and, if felt appropriate, the Association Chairman/Secretary advised.
7. The revised score sheet will continue this season with a specific section to be completed by Umpires. Please ensure this is completed fully and accurately.
8. It is advisable not to leave valuables in the pavillion changing room - unless this can be locked and the key retained either by you or your colleague during the match.
9. Important Change: At least 15 minutes before the scheduled or re-scheduled start of play umpires shall meet captains to:-
a) supervise the toss
b) receive both match balls
c) receive match cards from Captains
d) receive match expenses
e) discuss any specific match requirements
Umpires encountering any problems should report immediately to Dave Lawson.
BLOOD INJURY.
The League Executive Committee has decided in 2002 that a protocol in respect of 'blood injuries' sustained on the field of play should apply and Umpires should ensure they are aware of the procedures should such incidents occur -
The Executive Committee has considered the question of 'blood injuries' on the field of play and has resolved that the following course of action should be followed.
If a player sustains a minor cut or graze which can be adequately treated quickly by the use of a plaster play should be suspended briefly to allow such treatment. (see below)
If a player is bleeding freely he will be instructed to leave the field of play for treatment.
In the case of a fielder he will be entitled to have a substitute at all times.
In the case of a batsman he will retire hurt and return at the fall of a later wicket or retirement of a later batsman. If he is one of the last batsmen at the wicket then 10 minutes will be allowed for treatment, after which the innings will be deemed closed.
< IF UMPIRES PROVIDE PLASTERS, PLEASE ENSURE YOU DO NOT APPLY TO THE INJURY>
